John Cena is setting the record straight about who he really is behind the scenes.
During an interview with Us Weekly, the WWE star was asked if hes a big cuddly teddy bear in real life, and Cena didnt hold back in revealing how different he is from his on-screen persona.
Well, uh, so perception is reality, right? Cena said. If you always see me dodging explosions and beating people up, you get an idea of like, oh, thats who he is. Thats not me. Im 48. I love to read. Uh, I play piano in my spare time. I love to go on dates with the misses. Were here on a date tonight. Uh, I am so so far removed from what you see on TV. But Ill allow everybody out there perception is your reality. So, whatever your lens of me is, that I I cant tell you how to feel.
Cenas comments come as he continues to embrace his heel persona on WWE television, a drastic departure from his years as the face of the company. Since turning heel, Cena has been ruthless, attacking Cody Rhodes and aligning himself with The Rock, a move that shocked fans who once cheered him as a hero.
Despite his villainous actions in the ring, Cena insists his real life is a far cry from the explosive and intense character he portrays. Outside the ring, Cena enjoys playing piano, spending quiet evenings with his wife, and diving into good books. The wrestling icon, who turned 48 in April, acknowledged that fans may still see him as the larger-than-life action hero they watch on TV, but insists thats not who he really is.
Cenas revelation also follows his earlier comments in the same interview, where he promised to provide more insight into his WWE storyline in December, once his current run with the company concludes.
