Bea Priestley, known as Blair Davenport to WWE fans, isnt holding back when it comes to discussing the restrictions she faced during her WWE run. In her first interview since leaving the company, Bea opened up to Cultaholic about feeling stifled creatively when it came to changing her appearance.
While in NXT, Bea wanted to get a tattoo on her forearm but quickly learned it wasnt as simple as just walking into a shop. I asked to get an arm tattoo within the company, this is when I was in NXT, and they basically just kind of gave me this whole spiel, she said. Bea explained that the process involved reshooting promo pictures, scanning her for video games, and making adjustments to her entire branding. It just seemed like a lot of hassle. I was like, okay, its just easier for me to not do it than to do it, she admitted.
Bea also felt pressured to keep her blonde hair, a look that WWE identified as her signature style. Even changing my hair color, I kept blonde for so long because they kind of identified that as my look, she explained. The former WWE star recalled how her days in STARDOM allowed for more freedom, where she would change her hair color every month.
Bea said that unlike stars like Sasha Banks, who dramatically changed her hair as part of a character shift, she never felt she had enough momentum to justify a drastic transformation. When Sasha changed her hair color, it was because she turned heel after being babyface I just felt like I never had enough behind me to do a drastic change like that, she added.
Now that Bea is out of WWE, shes taking full advantage of her creative freedom, including getting that long-desired tattoo. But did WWEs branding control stifle her potential or keep her from standing out?
