Josh Alexanders move to AEW wasnt about WWE or TNAit was about TNA never stepping up with an offer. During a recent appearance on Casual Conversations with The Classic, Alexander revealed that TNA never made him a new deal before his contract expired, despite expressing interest in keeping him.
I had the meeting with TNA the year before, and they picked up my option, Alexander said. They were like, We really want to keep you. Okay, guys. I would be doing myself and my family a disservice by not seeing what else is out there from a financial and opportunity perspective. You guys come to the table with an offer. I love this place. I love the locker room.
Despite Alexanders willingness to negotiate, TNA never followed through. They never made me an offer, ever, he stated. They took that and were like, Oh, hes leaving. Even though I had conversations several times, Just make me an offer, guys. They never did.
With TNA remaining silent, Alexander had no choice but to explore other options. But why not WWE? According to Dave Meltzer, it all came down to the best financial deal on the table. I do know two things. Number one, he has decided where he was going, and number two, it was to whoever the highest bidder was for him, Meltzer said.
Alexander, who is in his late 30s, wasnt looking for a dream match or a WrestleMania momenthe was focused on securing the best financial future for his family. Providing the best for his family was key, Meltzer added. And, you know, somebody offered a better deal than the other, and thats the one he took.
Now, Alexander is officially with AEW, joining The Don Callis Family and set to make his debut on AEW Dynamite tonight from Detroit, MI.
