A press conference was held on May 1 which announced that STARDOM original, Mayu Iwatani, has now signed with Marigold. Iwatani confirmed her STARDOM departure earlier this week after 14 years with that company. Iwatanis first match with Marigold will be against Nanae Takahashi in a singles match this Sunday in the main event of Marigolds Korakuen Hall show. This will be the first time these two meet in a singles match since 2012.
Iwatani said one of the reasons she joined Marigold is to wrestle IYO SKY, Kairi Sane and Giulia. SKY participated in a Marigold match last year against Utami Hayashishita.
IYO-san and KAIRI are real superstars. So, one of the reasons why I transferred was because I wanted to wrestle with members like IYO-san, Kairi, and even Giulia. Well, IYO-san in particular is like an older sister to me, and I want to wrestle with her and team up with her.
Iwatani was questioned on if she had consideration on moving to a promotion in the U.S. She said the following:
I have two dogs and three cats, so I love Japan, and I love my home. I dont want to leave my cats and dogs. Well, for a while, I wanted to work for various promotions as a freelancer, and thankfully, after that press conference, I received offers from so many different people, from so many different promotions, and from all kinds of people, but as a freelancer, its a bit difficult to make your own schedule, negotiate your fee, and so on, so Im relying on a promotion after all. I guess Ill end up staying in Japan because I have a dog and a cat! But, there is a possibility that I may go overseas one day.
