COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (BRAIN) Borealis Fat Bikes said it is temporarily suspending inventory purchases for the 2025-2026 season because of the Trump administration's tariff policies.
Borealis Founder and CEO Steve Kaczmarek said "responsible planning" is impossible in the current climate.
"With the recent tariffs, there is little definition or stability, even following President Trump's speech on April 2nd," he said "While I understand the objective of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S., there are some industrieslike the bicycle industrythat will never be economically viable here. The administration's failure to recognize this reality is beyond me."
Kaczmarek said Borealis will not to place orders with suppliers for the 2025-2026season. Instead, the company will focus on selling off remaining inventory while maintaining customer support and spare parts availability. He said Borealis plans to resume inventory purchases for the 2026-2027 season, with new products arriving in summer 2026.
"Certain sectors, including the bicycle industry, are going to be decimated," Kaczmarek said. "Many small companies will be forced out of business because of these policies. We are taking a cautious approach to ensure Borealis remains a viable company for years to come."
He said Borealis is also evaluating a strategic partnership with other midsize brands to balance out Borealis' seasonal sales pattern.
