Bayern Munich may have to move quickly if they are to secure Ralf Rangnick, with the Austrian Football Association hoping to see a decision "within a week".

Bundesliga giants Bayern are desperately on the lookout for someone to replace their departing manager Thomas Tuchel as they look to wrestle the league title away from Bayer Leverkusen next season.

Rangnick, former Manchester United interim boss and current Austrian manager, has been approached regarding the vacancy, despite leading the national side at the upcoming European Championships.

Austrian federation director Peter Schottel is keen to keep Rangnick, however, and has warned Bayern that they will not entertain interest in their manager for much longer.

When a club like Bayern Munich comes knocking, it's understandable that you think about this club's interest," Schottel told ORF.

"We are close to the European Championships with big goals. Of course, there will also be a deadline from Bayern Munich because they also want to know. I think it will have to be done in a week or two.

"Ralf is contractually bound to us for the European Championships [until 2026]. We have maintained a very trusting relationship over the last two years. We will continue to do so. Depending on which direction his decision goes, we will discuss together what happens next.

"I am hopeful that Ralf will not only choose us, but will also be the Austrian team boss for the next few years."

Tuchel has ruled out remaining with Bayern beyond this season, putting pressure on the team to find a new boss.

Both Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann have rejected their advances and so Bayern have now set their sights on Rangnick.
