The efforts of FC Barcelona to tie key defender Ronald Araujo down to a new contract look set to be complicated by the efforts of some of the giants of the Premier League, according to reports.

Blaugrana standout

Uruguayan international Araujo has, of course, proven one of the standout performers at the Camp Nou over the early months of the campaign.

Amid an otherwise difficult opening to the campaign for Barca, the 22-year-old has continued to build on his reputation as one of the finest up-and-coming defenders in the game.

Araujo boasts a whole host of standout qualities, with his ability in the air, in the tackle and on the ball all of the highest quality.

It is his never-say-die attitude, though, which has seen the former Boston River star truly endear himself to the Blaugrana faithful, with Araujos willingness to battle till the final whistle a welcome sight amid a squad which has seen its commitment called into question on more than one occasion.

In turn, the latest word surrounding the efforts of those in a position of power at Barcelona to tie their defensive stud down for the long-term will no doubt be met with widespread concern on the part of the clubs supporters.

As per a report from reliable pair Samuel Marsden and Moises Llorens, talks between the Catalans and Araujo have been complicated by mounting pressure from the Premier League.

The board at the Camp Nou are understood to have tabled a 5-year proposal offer to the Uruguayan earlier this year.

Araujo, however, rejected the terms of the deal, in the hope of securing a more lucrative financial package.

The defenders stance has, in turn, culminated in ever-increasing interest from the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopps Liverpool having gone as far as to send emissaries to Catalunya in an attempt to discuss his future with Araujo himself.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are also keen, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on proceedings, too, as Araujos Barca contract continues to wind down.
